How to choose the right disc harrow

Perfect soil cultivation and preparation are very important before seeds are sown to ensure high quality crop yields. In this does not doubt nor a single farmer. Timely and properly organized soil cultivation improves plant growing conditions by creating a favorable environment for nutrient intake in the horizon, as well as optimum amounts of heat and moisture. With the destruction of weed vegetation, the likelihood of attacking plants by pests and diseases is reduced.

Harvest and its quality depend to a large extent on whether we have correctly chosen the soil cultivation technique. Depending on the soil - climatic conditions of the particular area, the crops grown and the available material and technical base, farmers apply different technologies for soil cultivation, many of them using different combinations. For this reason, when choosing agricultural equipment, it is very important to be suitable for more work. When selecting, the features, purpose, and specifications of the machine must be carefully examined.

Despite the wide range of agricultural techniques and technologies, farmers are increasingly engaged in soil cultivation with one of the main machines - a disc harrow. The harrow can be used for both minimal and traditional soil treatment. It is preferred because of the many functions it performs - loosening the top soil layer, mixing the soil with the plant residue that cuts and crinkles, and feeds the fertilizers. With a properly selected disc harrow, you can enter both a cultivated field and one that has not been cultivated for years.

Buying a disc harrow is an investment in the future and it is good to take into account some features:

Working width
The larger the working width, the more productive it is, but not all units need a bigger one. When choosing a disc harrow, it is important to take into account the size and shape of the arable areas in order to load the machine at the maximum and as quickly as possible to pay for itself. If the technique is incorrectly selected, it will not work with its maximum capabilities. For farms with an area of more than 15 000 decares are suitable harrows with a working width of 13 - 15 m. For those with an area of between 10,000 and 15,000 decares, it is recommended that the harrows be 8,8 to 10 m wide. For holdings of less than 10 000 ha are suitable branes with - less than 8 meters wide, and for very small farms is - better to take the machine rental, since it would take more years to recoup their investment. The most popular among farmers are those from 9 to 10.6 m, which are practically suitable for all farms.

Distance between discs
It is advisable to pay attention to the characteristics of the work organs - the distance between the discs, their diameter and their thickness. They have a direct impact on the depth of machining and the life of the machine. The larger the diameter, the deeper the disc harrow can work, and the distance between the discs depends on the quality of the processing at different depths. It is recommended that the working depth is 10 to 15 cm. Thus, the discs will overlap each other. The deeper the soil cultivation, the deeper the winter humidity gets.

The disk harrow must process the soil at the same length of time, if it does not, it will be necessary to use additional work tools to complete the soil cultivation, resulting in additional costs. Some manufacturers offer a resilient paw to solve this problem, which cuts the rough comb in the middle. It is good to choose such a machine where the front row of discs are overlapped, allowing the entire surface to be treated in a quality and uniformity in one pass.

Form of the bearings
Another feature capable of substantially lengthening the life of the machine is the shape of the bearing of the row with the discs. When the disc harrow runs at speeds of 10 to 12 km / h, it is constantly subjected to vibrational - vertical loads that are transmitted to the bearings. In traditional designs, the lubrication groove through which the lubricant is fed into the bearing passes through a rubber sheath. The housing shell of such a bearing is elastic and allows it to perform limited movements, resulting in increased wear and periodic lubrication of the lubrication channel. There are different, more reliable bearings. They are designed to avoid the possibility of congestion due to their rigid coupling with the bearing.

Wheels
We have to pay attention to what wheel is equipped disc harrow - plain or paired. The two wheels offer a larger bearing area, less ground pressure and better machine stability. In view of the heavy weight of the harrow, the tandem wheels can provide a more stable and even penetration of the discs along the entire working width.

Service - it is extremely important, as it is necessary for cautious and efficient operation of machines. Much of the cost of having a machine, especially a harrow, is the cost of periodic greasing, as well as the replacement of worn parts. These costs could be avoided by selecting a harrow in the design of which, in most joints, supermolecular polymer sleeves are used. They are made of wear-resistant material, exclude friction of metal parts in one another and do not require lubrication. Such bushings are durable in operation and do not require the input for regular lubrication and replacement.

When selecting a disc harrow, it is also important to pay attention to its placement. From this point of view, there are two options - 4 spotted mounted or pulled at the back.

- 3 - point-mounted harrows allow you to connect seamlessly to the tractor. They are easy to transport and store. They can be lifted and lowered and save much time for assembling terrestrial variations.

- Pull-on rear harrows are mounted.

Choosing to buy agricultural machines is not easy, as besides being a significant investment, it takes time and time to choose what would really come into use. However, the purchase of a disc harrow is an investment in the future as it is paid at the expense of the universal application of the machine as it provides stable and quality work regardless of the soil - climatic conditions of the area and the technology of soil cultivation.

Today, many disc harrows from different models and designs are available on the market. The choice of one or another model must be tailored to the particular sector, the volume of work and field conditions. Only then financial investments in the machine will be justified. We at Agrotehniki and Ko Ltd are ready to assist you in choosing the right technique. On our site you can look at some of the range of harrows we offer.
